Tom Mackewn is an author, illustrator, and professional inventor of mischief. Since winning the Lindfield Arts Festival Bursary in 2018, he’s gone on to write and illustrate two children’s books, bring countless characters to life, and take on private commissions—from portraits to brand designs—all from behind his famously messy desk.

Outside of book projects, Tom runs children’s art clubs, where he inspires young artists to embrace the joy of doodling, dreaming, and making art just for fun. He’s also the mastermind behind Burger Dog, a T-shirt design company celebrating “the art of going sideways” and the best of skate and surf culture. (Check it out at burgerdog.co.uk.)

Tom lives in Sussex with his wife, two sons, and an overly enthusiastic dog who has strong opinions on most things—except picture books, which he views with baffling indifference.
